Gizmo ...."I have used both polyester resin (hardware / auto store stuff) and epoxy resins. The polyester is cheaper, sets quicker and is slightly heavier. The epoxy is considerably more $$$ expensive. (I've used "West System) Epoxy can be used over most foams (Dow insulation foam pink, blue and styrofoam white "bead board") The polyester will chemically dissolve most foams. This is all assuming you're using some kind of foam "forms." Not really sure what you mean by a ripple effect. Epoxy can be thickened by the use of additives to allow shaping and to use as a glue or bedding material.
With either of them I would advise the use of gloves (nitrile or latex) and adequate ventilation. Epoxy isn't as bad for vapors but can build a skin sensitivity over time if you don't protect bare skin.
Good luck

Hindsightengineering .... "I have an old ford panel truck and needed the defroster ductwork for the windshield and they are pressed cardboard sort of and nonexistant, I took the old ones and soaked them in the fiberglass resin and this made them rigid and permanent like hard plastic worked good."
Gryphonn ...."I'd look for tutorials on youtube (for eg: building car audio sub boxes). If you do torrent sites/downloads, search and download videos on the subject. Polar fleece is commonly stretched over fibreglass mat supported by foam or wooden shapes and then saturated with epoxy. Personally I'd rather work with epoxy coz fibreglass resin is."
24therroad .... "okay to give an hint I wanna take an american flag small size and use the fiberglass resin on it..will this work. Think i will give it a try saturday."
mondosbondo .... "Hello, I like this idea and am sure it will work as i have used other materials with both types of resins, as long as there is something to soak into the resin will harden and make it stiff and rigid. I would suggest some sort of form or mold but don't forget the release, very important as i have found out."
Gizmo ... "Sounds like a piece of corrugated roofing would make an ideal mold!"
